15th Penang International Dance Sport Championship

15th Penang International Dance Sport Championship

Photo showing all the dancers from the various countries like UK, Russia, Spain, China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, our very own Malaysia plus many other countries participating in this year’s dance sport. After the competition, all the dancers and judges were treated to a free support at the ground floor when the spectators sart to leave.

On the 22nd of November, last Saturday, I went to see 15th Penang International Dance Sport ampionship held in PISA (Penang International Sports Arena) in Relau. This time Astro came to record the dance event and we were told not to capture any dance, but I secretly taped this just like many other spectators who came with their cameras ready. As usual, the dance was spectacular with many hours of practise I am sure. They were executed perfectly or rather I could not tell a perfect one from a not so perfect dance but there were more than 20 judges who adjudicated the event. There were waltz, romantic samba, quick jive and even belly dance for the first time.

The tickets this year round was buy one get one free. The dance sport did not start at 6:30pm as scheduled due to a massive traffic jam in Penang bridge due to an accident. It only began at 7:30pm, an hour later. I was late as well, and did not have to wait too long. China seems to have caught up with international dance level as many couples from China clinched first and second places. The costumes were superb too, some very sexy but one of the couples from China who eventually got third place got their featured costumes dropping blue white feathers all over the floor. This year, they took precaution of mopping the floor every few dances so that it is not slippery from perspiration and dancers won’t fall off embarassingly, unlike last year.
