Relationships are more important than making money
May 17, 2007 10:05 am Diana's Diary, Tribute to grannyMy paternal granny had passed away yesterday evening at 5:15pm and today the funeral was conducted in a small, private affair where only immediate family members attended. Grandma was a vivacious woman who single-handedly brought up her 4 children when she was widowed young at around late twenties to early thirties.
I had planned to bring her window shopping in Queensbay Mall but day after day, I did not make the commitment due to other priorities. This year, I also did not visit her on Mother’s day unlike the previous years and bought her roses. Had I known that she was going to pass away so soon, I would have taken the opportunity to put aside my other commitments and just spend quality time with Granny. Now it is too late. And granny was getting weaker by the day and she had to be spoon-fed and her diapers changed like a baby. The Indonesian maids at Wan Ching Yuen Old Folks Home were faithful in their duty to change Granny’s soiled adult diapers, feeding her till the day she passed away. My only regret is that I should not have been too busy with making money but put some time aside for granny’s pleasure instead of my own.
Now that I have experienced this poignant reminder with granny, I will make sure from now onwards, I will try to spend quality time with my parents especially dad who has been so faithful in taking care of granny. I have to forgive and forget whatever grievances in the past, put them aside and look forward to better quality relationships. I will endeavour to be a better filial daughter and obey my parent’s wishes.
