Time for Austerity Drive

Diana's Diary, Rants 2 Comments

I was talking to mum the other day about her shares dropping rock bottom and she is not too concerned about it – according to her, as long as she does not sell it, it is just paper loss and likewise if you make money but don’t sell your shares, it amounts to paper profit. I sense that because we 3 daughters are contributing RM600 a month each to the household expenses that my parents can afford to dine out every day. My mum does not cook nor does she do housework. In many ways, you could say that she leads the life of a ‘tai-tai’ or shopping mall wife who reads the newspapers every day, watches Astro on television whole day and sleeps in between during afternoon naps.

While I don’t have the luxury to slumber all the time, I need to work hard and save up for my retirement so that I will have more than enough to last a lifetime. As I don’t have kids, I cannot depend on them like my parents depend on us for financial support. With the economic gloom and share market in bearish run recently, it heralds for austerity measures. And I haven’t even straighten my wild hair for the last 12 months even though it is difficult to comb them sometimes.

Happy Deepavali

Happy Deepavali

Here is a snap shot of a kolam created by coloured rice beads and put together into a colourful composition that looks like a painting. This is the tradition of Indian culture to create kolams in many high traffic public places like supermarkets, etc. I wonder how they actually colour the rice beads which may come in handy for my company’s project.

Happy Deepavali
Posters are put up to celebrate Deepavali and is a reminder of the rich culture of the many races in Malaysia. Here is to wish all my Indian readers a Happy Deepavali and a good holiday to my non-Indian visitors.

Experimenting with Photos Plugin

Diana's Diary No Comments

I am now trying to configure a photo plugin that pulls all my photos from Flickr to this blog to share my photos with you. So far so good until I hit a stage that does not seem to work so well to add the photo widget to this blog. I hope to configure the photo widget that can be added to the sidebar permanently. My Flickr is a paid account for 2 years since I have exceeded the given free disk space. The amount in USD is not too expensive because I can continue to post nice photos to my Flickr account and browse back at them in my free time. My time is limited as I need to get other quotations done and hopefully, this will be successful. Keeping my fingers crossed.

100% Guarantee of All Money Deposits

News 6 Comments

Finally the Malaysian government followed Singapore’s footsteps in guaranteeing all the people’s money in bank deposits and not only up to RM60,000 as stipulated earlier. There is now 100% bank guarantee. This is a relief of local folks here and also for myself. When Malaysia Deposit Insurance Corporation, (PIDM) decided to guarantee 100% of our deposit accounts up to year 2010, I was elated because before this I was contemplating of transferring RM60,000 from my Public bank to another bank. Thank goodness I was not in a hurry and waited till now. My friend went to Public bank yesterday and saw newspaper cuttings of the government announcement being pasted on the wall for obvious reasons – prevent depositors from taking out chunks of RM60,000 and transferring to other banks.

Orange juice with an orchid in a glass. The dark soft purple orchid is the national flower of Singapore and is abundant every where over there – seen in posters, on the press, brochures, etc.

nonya restaurant
Interior decoration of a cosy nonya restaurant in Penang. The rosewood furniture beckons you to dine here as long as your wallet allows. Personally, I don’t eat here often if you think so, but prefer to have simple hawker food.

nonya food
Nonya food that I ordered consisting of nasi ulam, sambal kangkong, otak and jiu hu char. Also had chocolate float, not seen here.

lily of the valley
Cound not resist a good shot of a bouquet of orange lily-of-the-valley. I love flowers and think they will cheer up any bad day.

Changed to New Theme

Diana's Diary 9 Comments

Today I was experimenting with different themes and finally found one that I like. I managed to change to a new theme of Maple Leaf plus adding my Adsense codes and Feedburner, etc. I guess I will stick to this theme for a long time to come. In the meantime, was very busy printing out emails and purchase order from clients and attending to phone calls. I was multi-tasking here and there and this kept me very occupied. Plus the fact that Adsense new codes did not show up until 10 minutes later. I had to delete and add the codes here and there by trial and error. This took up some more precious time. But I like the end result with a banner of trees in autumn season. Hope you like this too.

Virtual Assistant

Diana's Diary 6 Comments

Almost everyday for the past one and a half weeks, I have an article to write for my client in UK. And he pays me right after I emailed him the article. I also found job online to format a 45-page ebooks for a customer from Canada. My job was simple – to add beautiful pictures, create a one page table of contents and convert the Word Document file into PDF that is smaller file and non editable. As my Paypal in increasing slowly but surely, my debit card linked to a Arkansas State Valley Bank was disabled probably due to bank failure and closure. I hope the company will be able to find an alternative USA bank to link to it so that I can withdraw my money from Paypal. It is now more than USD100 from moonlighting part time writing articles and offering virtual assistance

Google Chrome – A New Web Browser

News, Technology 1 Comment

You might like to know that Google Chrome is available for download here. Still in its beta format, meaning it is not in its full version yet with tests feedback to be done by the public, Google Chrome is a browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster, safer, and easier. Developed by none other than the ubiquitous Google, Google Chrome is meant to compete with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer that comes with Windows XP or Vista. Talking about Vista, there are many unsavoury consumer feedback on the latest Windows operating system – it is buggy and not user friendly with many applications not being able to be installed.

Looking for Herbalife Distributor selling at Supervisor Price

Business 15 Comments

I am also selling Herbalife part time since early this year and have sold to many clients online – check out the list of enquiries from my clients here. They are from the internet after doing Google search and come to me. What I want now is to look for an alternative Herbalife distributor who can sell at supervisor price and you can leave your email with me at the comment section of this blog if you can offer me 50% discount plus a further 5% discount on Herbalife products which I am getting from my upline now. This is for contingency purpose in case he cannot deliver and I don’t want to just depend on one person.
