Moonlighting at Home

Moonlighting means taking up a part time job – which I do by writing articles besides my full time job in a home office. I also update my blogs now and then when I have the time such as now. It works perfectly well for me, allowing me to earn a little more extra almost every day by taking up micro jobs. Unfortunately, I am unable to verify my AlertPay account as the system has glitches and cannot do credit card verification for me, despite now having the AlertPay debit card. So, effectively, my money is stuck here until they find a quick solution to all this problem.

What People Do Online

Most of the people who go online usually look for jobs, chat with friends or check emails. These are the most common activities of the onliners. As for me, I usually scout around for part time work or micro jobs to complete online or even look for short writing gigs. If your blogs are well updated with good information, then you can get juicy posts to blog on. But if you take up too many of such posts paying miniscule amounts, then it may not be worth the effort and dilute your earnings.

The spoilt rich brats will usually play online games to boost their egos to make up for their lack of confidence. But for most of us, coming from middle class families, we will source around for jobs to complete online and to earn a decent income.

Working Online

Somebody asked me if I have vacancy in my company and he wants to work here. He is quiting from his present job in another company and I wish him luck because as far as computer work in concerned, I handle all of it for my company. Sometimes, there are plenty to do and I am fully occupied round the clock as I am the only staff who handles all the quotations and enquiries. I also have to create invoices and remember to phone for payment. It is not a lackadaisical working environment unlike some government agencies, but one has to work fast and be prompt about it. You cannot be MIA – missing in action!

Going to KL later

Today I will be going to KL for business and to accompany my colleague. We will depart Penang during lunch time and I am not sure when I will be back yet, hopefully before my youngest sister’s birthday on 11th March 2012. My mum has tentatively booked a restaurant for my sister where she will treat the family for a birthday dinner. Today, I just typed out 2 invoices and a quotation. Woke up quite early today, before 7:00 am to have a quick breakfast and then to fire off my computer and start working. Just pray for journey mercies for the 400km trip down to KL with stopover in Bidor, Perak to meet up with a potential client.

Not Easy to Earn Online

It is not easy to earn online and even if there are opportunities, the offer is very miniscule. But even then, I will still take up the opps as this will mean more pocket money to my bank account. I cannot rely wholly on my full time job as my boss can retire anytime. He is already in his retirement age, but still working hard to support his many Bangladeshi workers, including his family. So, in the meantime, I will support and assist him with my computer skills and administrative work at home. Make hay while the sun shines, for you never know when it is going to be your last pay check.

Just the other day, I read the The Star that around a whopping 150 cars are stolen here each day and the police have discovered a warehouse storing the various car parts that have been dismantled from stolen cars. Contemplating of Writing a Book

I am considering of writing a book to include some of my blog posts here and my journey in online income. So far, I have found a publisher from USA and they need the first three chapters of the manuscript to be submitted for approval first. The good thing is that they will do all the promotion and marketing and sell your book worldwide as they have all the connections. You will see your book in Borders, and other mega bookstores for the first 3 years. They will also help in editing your script, design a book cover for a fee as a package. I am not sure whether to go for local publisher or foreign one. Or I could just create an ebook instead and use the money for marketing. This is just the initial plan.

Collected My Deposit

Today I drove to my new apartment to collect the deposit for the renovation. I had to sign a form and the lady in charge then handed me my cheque. After everything was in order, and nothing deducted, I banked in the cheque in Public Bank after driving and waiting for another 15 minutes. After that I went to the post office to buy 50 pieces of 60 cents stamps at Dato Keramat. I send out 2 letters every month, which means I need at least 24 pieces of 60 cents stamps to EPF and to SOCSO per year. Then I drove back to check on my emails before my colleague called me as he has damaged the bumper of his car and needed help.

Went to Alor Setar

Yesterday, I went to Alor Setar with my colleague to visit a potential client for a project. It drizzled slightly along the way. The roads are straight with lots of paddy fields on both sides of the lane. We also visited an existing client nearby check the condition of the floor. The air was crisp, with birds chirping and panorama punctuated by the presence of hillocks. It was a good ride in the car offering splendid view of village life and green paddy fields. The journey was peaceful, away from the hustle and bustle of city life in Penang.

The exhibitions halls were epic and not only large. I remember attending a computer trade show exhibition and there were so many free gifts to take back including very nice plastic bags for promotion. The exhibitors were certainly very generous in their promotion by distributing door gifts to everyone that they come across.

Those were the days when I could walk long distances and not feel tired. And I love window shopping in Orchard Road, one of the 10 most expensive places in the world. Now being settled down in Penang, I still attend trade shows, but on a smaller scale as the exhibition halls are much smaller compared to those of international standard in Singapore.
