Earning $$$ from Micro Blogging

Almost everyday I have micro income from blogging. I call it micro because it pays a mere USD 50 cents per 50 word post. Gone are the days where I used to get up to USD 20.00 per post because the American economy is not doing well and they want to reserve such lucrative offers for their fellow Americans, which I can fully understand. So, in the meantime, I have to lower my expectations and do more work for less income. Besides, I usually blog regularly for all my 7 blogs and while doing so, might as well leverage on the profit taking.

Now I have a few sources of finding jobs online and have earned some allowances here and there doing micro jobs from the internet. The amount may not be a lot but with bits here and there completed each day, it will sum up to quite a substantial amount by the end of the month. Since I am still new to the system, I am not so sure about the payment but I know it is through Alert Pay and not Paypal which I am so used to. So, in this case, patience is a virtue. I am also a voracious reader and go to MPH very often to read up and improve my knowledge on general matters. I am blessed to be working on my own from a home office using my own initiative to look for jobs online in my free time – when not doing work for my boss.

At RHB, Your Money Draws Gold

Today, I pulled out a page from the The Star newspaper which was advertised by RHB bank for extra fixed deposit interests above the normal rates for 3 months tenure. For a new deposit of RM 50,000.00, you will get 1 free gold-plated treasure dragon with additional 0.63% interests rate per annum including the board rate. For a new deposit of RM 250,000.00 for 3 months, you will get free four gold-plated treasure dragons and one treasure dragon of bounty plus 0.83% additional interest above the board rate. The last time I put some money into RHB bank, I got a free umbrella and RM 40.00 Tesco vouchers. But since Standard Chartered bank offered 5% interests 2 months ago, I took out all the money and put into SC bank which has earned me some money in the range of hundreds of dollars each month.

Don’t borrow from Ah Longs

If you are in desperate need of money, always approach the banks first. I keep getting phone calls from Citibank wanting to loan me money through my credit card. Sometimes the phone calls become a nuisance especially when I am resting and get woken up or when I am in the midst of doing something or working. In Singapore, banks never call you up to loan you money – unlike the desperado banks in Malaysia. That is why the moment you take up a big loan using your credit card, the banks start earning interests from 17% per annum onwards. This is the real money making machine with their credit card services.

But in the event that you get turned down by a bank for a loan, then you should ask your relatives, families or close friends for financial help. Never, by all means, resort to Ah Longs or illegal money lenders. They make cut throat profits at 25% per day or so. I am not sure about the percentage but it should be in that range! If you need money to do business, then approach a bank with a business plan. This way, they may be convinced to loan you the money with lesser interests rates. We have heard of horror stories of people who default payment from the Ah Long and get themselves in trouble – like getting their house or car splashed with red paint, house gate locked from outside, life threatened, etc. If you have to borrow money to start a business, then you might as well forget the plan and try to work for other people instead. There is at least job security and income in being an employee.

To be Rich, Spend Less than You Earn

No matter how much you earn, to be really rich is to spend less than you earn each month. This is basic financial principal. As long as you can save some money, say 10% of your income every month, you will become rich when you retire eventually. Many financial experts keep writing in their books to tell us to spend way less than we earn. Otherwise, you are just a transit for money transactions. You need to attract money and not repel it. By using compounding interests, you will become rich in a matter of years as you faithfully keep at saving money monthly. There is no other way for most of us who have to slought it out daily, year in year out.

Virtual Assistance

Yesterday, I got an offer to work for 25 hours at USD 10 per hour for an Australian guy in the virtual assistance work. I need to create an Excel file showing the comparisons of the prices from 2 online flight brokers at different days with return date 14 days later after departure. Also need to find out the tax rates in Malaysia, New Zealand and Australia. And finally, I need to find out the rental condominiums in KL for AUD 1,000. I have started working since yesterday for 2 hours already. Perhaps I will continue this work when I go back to Penang and work in my home office as I am currently in KL for business. I am not sure if this Australian guy plans to migrate to Malaysia, Singapore or New Zealand as he is currently comparing the tax rates and cost of flights. Maybe he is a business man who has to travel extensively zipping between the countries for every 2 weeks.

As I work from home, I can comfortably offer extra computer work services like being a virtual assistant for extra income. It keeps my brain gainfully occupied and time well spent – instead of slumbering away in an air-con room when there is no work. I certainly love this work arrangement with my boss where I can work at home since 2004.

Quantitative easing is a bombastic word to mean ‘printing money’. This is what USA is doing to reverse its fiscal deficit in the scale of USD13.4 trillion! Printing money will lead to inflation and the money will be rendered worthless later on like what happened to the Japanese occupation in Malaya where we have lots of useless banana paper money. In Mozambique, you may be a billionaire but still beg in the streets for food. The money is in the billions and yet you cannot afford to buy a loaf of bread there as a billionaire!

It is a 623-page book and I will surely take a long time to finish reading it. But it was the same book that the world’s greatest investor, Warren Buffet read a long time ago. Benjamin Graham has written 3 books so far in his entire life on stocks and investing.

Though my English is not perfect, I will try my best to write in an impeccable style with no spelling errors. You see, I love travelling and need to pay for my trip overseas – hence I need to save up some money to go for a tour preferably once a year. Currently, I have no plans for next year; I might not even go for tour in a couple of years time but wait until my second sister gets her pHd in 3 years time before we sisters travel again as a group. It is no fun travelling alone, not only that you have to cough up more cash to pay for 2 persons staying in a room for yourself. Therefore, the extra moolah earned will go towards my future trips overseas. Everything cost money, as you know by now. And I need to sponsor my own trip in the near future, if there is any at all.

You have seen pictures of my trip to Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Macau recently. And in the past to Bandung in Indonesia and Bangkok. After some pep talk from my second sister, I am now in the austerity drive mode. No longer spending on the spur of the moment and considering of saving up more for my retirement in a few years down the road. Look at it this way. My boss is not young anymore and I wonder how many more years he can have the strength to helm the company to greater heights of success and travelling long distances. Most people his age would have retired and vegetate at home. But he is competing with himself to do his utmost best to support so many workers, his employees with families to support, children to feed, etc.

Though I am bless to work for such as boss as him, I also need to plan my future and need passive income or residual income if I am no longer working. Moonlighting is one of them, blogging and doing posts are another option. But the money just trickles in and not as lucrative as before. But I guess, something is better than nothing at all. What say you?

Beating Inflation

You need to have multiple sources of income to beat inflation. Using the rule of 72, if the inflation rate is 6%, then it takes 72 divided by 6 equal 12 years for your money to become half its value. This is scary! Inflation will certainly reduce the value of your paper money over time. Which is why you need to have a few sources of income to beat inflation. It is good if you can maintain your day time job while working part time for another source of cash. To do this, you can freelance your skills like writing articles, blogging, offering web designing, or virtual assistance over the weekend while keeping your main job.

An easy way for the multiple source of income is to put your money or savings in the fixed deposit for higher returns compared to keeping in the savings account. You can also invest in government bonds for higher coupon rates or interests returns on your principal. This is much safer and less stressful compared to investing in unit trusts or market equity like the share market which goes up and down like the roller coaster. Unless you are Warren Buffet, most people don’t make money in the stock market. You have do extensive financial research, do some calculations using Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, read the financial news, etc in order to get a better idea how to invest and which company to choose from.
