Happy Chinese New Year of the Dragon 2012

Here is an very nice serpentine angpow for the year of the dragon in 2012. I got this from a relative during a dinner reunion last night. Just loved the intricate design with the appropriate theme that it shows.

Got an octagonal box of 13 oranges – I ate one already – leaving 12 here. Chinese love the figure 8 which means luck, hence the octagonal shape. This was a gift from my boss for the year’s work.

Here is the deco to the entrance of Lee Gardens Plaza in Hatyai where I spend 3 days and 2 nights with my family. It was situated just opposite 2 big shopping complexes where I did some of my shopping for the cheaper exchange rate to Thai Baht.

Just before CNY, we had Indian buffet on a Thursday at Lone Pine Hotel along Batu Feringghi. For Thursdays, the buffet theme was Indian, while Mondays and Tuesdays were hawkers’ fare and Wednesdays was steamboat buffet. For Fridays, it was dine and wine costing double the price at $98 per person.

I was somewhere in town but did not wake up to see the fireworks displayed at KOMTAR, New World Park and Penang Times Square. Was too tired and fast asleep then after traveling to a resort near Lumut for tennis courts and came back the same day. The roads were very winding and my colleague drove quite fast negotiating the bends. Goodbye year of the Rabbit and welcome year of the dragon. To my readers, I would like to wish you a Prosperous and Happy New Year in 2012. We get to be a year older and wiser. That also means more white hairs on the crowns on our heads.

Post Christmas

I came back from a short holiday somewhere nearby over Christmas. I also watched ice skating show with magic and entertainment. Now I am busy with my new apartment and have spent a lot of my own money on the furnishing. It will be rented out later on for passive income. I have to dig deep into my reserves for the furnishing. Now it is post Christmas and the closing of another year of the rabbit. Very soon it will be to usher in the new year of the dragon. Today I have some offers to write for some cash and this gives me constant income. It will add up to my total income for the year.

Almost a Year is Gone

Almost is year is gone now and very soon we will sing Auld Lang Syne to say goodbye. Christmas is just around the corner and a few days later, will be the end of 2011 – year of the rabbit which is my friend’s year. Then we will usher in a new year of the dragon. Some of the banks are giving out free dragon gold-plated little dragons if you deposit a certain amount with them for their Fixed Deposits. This year, they gave out little gold-plated rabbits which I should have taken when I deposited with them, but alas a little too late. Time certainly flies and before you know it, another year is coming soon next year. Now is the shopping season where people tend to have more cash from their year end bonuses.

It is a Blessing

It is a blessing to be able to work from a home office. I cannot expound on this enough. And I have a dream job to work from a home office since February 2004. I save a lot of money from traveling back and forth to a different office place by working at home with the computer downstairs. All my tasks are within my capabilities and I love it this way. My boss is also understanding and not too demanding unlike some bosses of my cohorts. I thank God for my blessings every day with the talent to work effectively and to type efficiently without much difficulties. All my web sites can be found by search engines like Google and I get organic traffic from them. Organic traffic means visitors from the search engines. They type a certain keyword or a group of keywords and out comes my blog pages, for instance this blog of mine.

I am entering Pimp My Cube Contest

I am entering a contest for Pimp my Cube which is my work space in a home office. See the mess around with loads of stuffs stacked on top of one another giving an eye-sore to the work place. But I have no choice. These are all much needed thing, and I don’t have enough storage space to put them away in a proper place away from my workstation. You can see the wires dangling around the laptop, my iPad 2 placed on top of the multi-functional printer since I am currently charging it – the battery is low at the moment.

And stacks of bags of stuffs to be put away for more walking space, but they are now under the table containing my fax machine. Used papers strewn all over the table and they will be collected as recycled paper to sell for some profit. But for the moment, I placed them there as it is more convenient.

Behind my workstation are bags and plastic bags of things like CDs, files, empty recycled bags, papers, office stationaries, etc. I think I really need a makeover with a new cube and proper cubicle to place all my office stuffs neatly on my workspace so that I can retrieve them without much effort. Help me!

The Benefits of Working at Home

Working at home certainly has its advantages. First of all, I save a lot of money on gasoline from commuting to a different work place. Secondly, I save money on office clothes and make-up. Hence I work in my pajamas or casual clothes like a t-shirt and a pair of shorts. Thirdly, I get to nap anytime I want to. Fourth, I don’t have any nosy supervisor to look over my shoulders and checking on me. Fifth, I work at my own pace, setting the time and mood to work. It is like being my own boss at home. And I thank God for my blessings with a dream job since early 2004 until today.

I get paid a basic salary plus commissions for the projects that I bring in via my web site. That is why for every enquiry, I have to treat them as potential clients and print out for my boss to read every day. As my boss’ laptop is spoilt, he is depending on me alone to show him all the printed emails and enquiries each day. We have good working relations and he puts his complete faith in me. We are a small company but a dynamic one where the use of computer and the internet is of utmost importance.

Going to KL This Week

Last week, my boss has informed me that I will be going to KL this week. It will most probably be tomorrow or the day after. I have just finished processing 70 envelopes which is the third batch for this year – putting calendars and marketing letters into the envelopes, chopping the company address, pasting stamps, sealing them and finally pasting on the receivers’ addresses. Although I work from a home office, there will always be work every day, depending on the amount which may vary according to email enquiries, etc. Sometimes, I also need to type out invoices and delivery orders and email them to existing clients. Being the only employee who handles all the computer work, I have to work fast and be proficient in MS Word, otherwise, you may be overwhelmed with the amount of work each day.
