Cell Phones, Food for Thought, News, Technology No Comments

Now you can use Gmail for free phone calls to US and Canada. Earlier you could use the Gmail voice and video chat feature but that required both people to be at their computers, signed into Gmail at the same time. Now you can call any phone right from Gmail!
Then…

and now…

Gmail Phone Call Rates

Google promises calls to the U.S. and Canada will be free for at least the rest of the year and calls to other countries will be billed at very low call rates, when compared to local operators —for as little as $0.02 per minute.

Get started with Gmail Phone Calls

The feature is rolling out to U.S. based Gmail users over the next few days. When active, you will see the “Call Phone” link in Gmail Chat. Just click “Call phone” at the top of your chat list and dial a number or enter a contact’s name. Remember you need to install the voice and video plug-in to get this to work.

Free Phone Calls, Voicemails On Blogs with GrandCentral

Cell Phones, Food for Thought, Services, Technology No Comments

Do you know that you can receive phone calls and post voicemails right on your blog. GrandCentral, a Google service, will let you add these communication options on your blog for free!

Blogger Buzz says that though GrandCentral is currently in a private beta test, bloggers can skip the wait and get a free account immediately. GrandCentral is an innovative service that lets users integrate all of their existing phone numbers and voice mailboxes into one account, which can be accessed from the web. Last year Google acquired GrandCentral Communications.

Add GrandCentral?s WebCall button to your blog, and your readers can easily call your phone or leave voicemails without ever seeing your telephone number. You can screen calls, either accepting them or sending them to voicemail, and you can even block unwanted callers altogether.

At this time, it is only available from within the US and maybe opened up to additional countries in the future. I tried the exclusive Blogger invite, but it doesn’t work from India. However, its a great way for US residents to get entry into GrandCentral and use its revolutionary communication features.

How to sort folders in Windows on basis of size

Food for Thought, General, Technology 3 Comments

When you start managing your hard disk space on computer, the most important thing is to find out the culprit folders. If you are having lot many folders in a drive, then that may take too long to clean them and get some free space, but if that drive’s folders are sorted on basis of their size, then it will not take much time to cleanup your disk. As there is no “Sort folders on basis of size” is available by default in any version of Windows, that’s why you will have to use third party software to do the same. Sort by Size options in there in Windows for files but not for folders. So, here are some awesome tools to sort folders in Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 computers.

Disk Space Fan – Analyze Hard Disk Space

A wonderful tool to show used and free disk space thru a pictorial diagram. It shows the folders in a drive or sub-folders of a folder sorted by their sizes. By using this tool, you can have a picture of distribution of disk space in different folders. Once that is done, you can pick up the culprit folder and start cleaning that by sorting the files inside that folder by using “Windows default” sort button.

Folder Size – Freeware (Sort Folders on Size)

This is another disk analysis tool thru which you can have a detailed page for each folder showing lot many information including folder size. Based on the data provided by this tool, you can analyze folders in your drive or any network shared folders as well. Once you are done with that, you can start cleaning up the files and sub-folders after that.

Folder Size for Windows XP

It is an older version of Folder Size only applicable for Windows XP. As the explorer of Windows Vista and Windows 7 is very different from Windows XP, it doesn’t work on Vista or 7 but it works smoothly on Windows XP. Again, you can scan your hard disk drives or network folder to get the list of folders with huge size and start cleaning up them.

High-Definition Viewing Pleasures

Contribution by Terrance Kirby

Through my best cable tv deals connection, I would have to say that the program I enjoy most in high-definition is the Discovery Channel series Planet Earth. Since its original broadcast in 2006 I catch reruns whenever possible. As an amateur photographer I am easily jealous of the cinematography each episode displays. High-definition is simply the only format in which to view the stunning footage displayed, whether it be macro close-ups of colorful carnivorous plants, ice crystals, and insects, or underwater footage of a piranha feeding frenzy. It is impressive how their equipment even survived some of the shooting assignments, including emperor penguins over-wintering in Antarctica, or the claustrophobic tightness of underground caves and water pools.

Following “Planet Earth” was the series “Life”, and my reaction was the same. The crispness and color of a sea anemone’s tentacles, a tropical fish, or a flock of monarch butterflies is better appreciated with high-definition clarity. Most impressive were the macro shots of Venus flytraps in the wild closing their traps on unsuspecting flies, and the sticky drops of a sundew holding on to a mosquito.

I can only hope for many more high-definition programs such as these on Discovery and other channels like it.

Been Pretty Busy Lately

I have been very busy recently due to my work and next week, I will be going down to Kuala Lumpur again for business. This is on top of my moonlighting job writing articles and blogging. I guess I am lucky to be educated in English that I can think on my feet and write reasonably good posts and articles that people want. Though it is not good enough to be a stringer for The Star, nevertheless, I can still make a living online through the internet and get some allowances here and there. My site advertisements are also doing quite well and I can cash in every few months. Though some bloggers are cashing in every month, I am quite happy with my progress so far. It is not easy to make money online and those who have tried it trying to copy others will know the truth.

What a Pity – He could not get a job!

Diana's Diary, Food for Thought, General, Technology No Comments

My mother’s church friend’s son who studies in UK and graduated with a Master’s degree could not pass any interview and has not been working since graduation. What a waste! He is about the same age as my youngest sister. I guess he is just not blessed to hold a job. Perhaps he has very high expectations and salary during the job interview that they could not afford him. Being the only son, his parents did not pressure him to take up lower paying job like working in Mac Donald’s. I guess he is lucky that his parents love him regardless of the situation and still support him when they are still alive.

By hitting on F11 key on keyboard, you can set Google Chrome to full-screen. This shortcut is same for Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer as well. But in case of Chrome, you don’t get a address bar slider in full-screen mode and that’s why you can’s enter a new site’s address. For opening a new tab in Chrome, you can use CTRL + T combination and to switch between different tabs, you can use CTRL + Tab or CTRL + 1, 2 , 3, 4…as per the required tab.

But here I will show you simple trick to enter new site’s address or to open a new site in full screen mode of Google Chrome browser. I think that makes the browser perfect for working in full screen mode because I feel irritated whenever I need to open a new site in Chrome in full screen mode and to do that I was used to hit F11 and then enter the address and again come to full screen by hitting F11. But not now, because you can use the below mentioned trick to open the new site without coming back to normal mode.

We are not going to use any extension for this purpose as there are some extensions which claims the same but doesn’t work at all. So here is the trick to open new site by entering address in full screen mode.

Open New Site without coming back to Normal from Full-Screen

1. Make Google Chrome the default browser on your computer. To do that, go to settings ==> Options page and there you can see an options as “default browser”. Set chrome as default browser.

2. If Google Chrome is open on your computer, then hit F11 to switch to full-screen mode

3. Now you need to hit (Windows Key + R) to open run command box of windows.

4. Enter new site’s address and hit “Enter”. You can see that the new site is opened in a new tab of the same browser. You can use above mentioned keyboard shortcut to open new sites in full screen mode of Chrome

General, Technology, YouTube No Comments

If you have already uploaded a video on YouTube and now wants to add Title at the start of the video and a snap at end for advertisement, then here is the way to do that. Yes, you can download the video file from YouTube and edit that on desktop application like Camtasia Studio to do the same but here I will let you know the way to do it without even downloading or using any desktop video editor application. Title at start of the video is very helpful in describing the content of video as well we for promoting your website. Same befits are there in adding one slide at the end of each video.

As you know, YouTube has recently launched their own editor thru which you can actually do basic editing of a video. But there is no option to add any image or slide in the uploaded video thru YouTube Editor. So what we will have to is that, we can take the title or end slide clip from any other uploaded video of your own and then use that clip on both end of the video file which needs to be changed. If you are not having any video with title or link for your site, You can create a small video on your desktop using any screen capturing tool and upload that to YouTube.
