Apple Ipod Nano
As it uses flash memory but colored aluminum cases, the Apple iPod nano (Second Generation) looks like a cross between the first generation iPod nano and the second generation iPod mini. It uses either 2 GB, 4 GB, or 8 GB of flash memory, capable of supporting either 500, 1000, or 2000 songs, respectively. Regardless of capacity, every iPod nano (2G) is capable of holding up to 25,000 iPod nano-viewable photos, but none support video playback.

The 2 GB model is available in silver, the 4 GB model in silver, green, blue, and pink, and the 8 GB model in black only. Hardware enhancements from the original iPod nano include longer battery life (a reported 24 hours), and a brigher 1.5 inch (diagonal) LCD display. The software has been improved with a search engine. In Malaysia, the silver 2GB Ipod retails for RM699, the 4GB apple green, fushcia pink and turquoise blue retails at RM939 while the black 8GB Ipod sells at RM1,149.

Silent Knight
ASUS has announced the release of its Silent Knight CPU cooler, which is aimed at the dual-core processor PC market. The Silent Knight cooler supports the latest and most powerful platforms in the market such as the Intel Core 2 series, Pentium D Dual-Core CPU, Pentium 4 LGA775 as well as Socket 478 processors such as AMD’s Socket AM2/940/939/754, Athlon 64-FX, Athlon and Sempron chips.

Asus claims that the CPU cooler enables more efficient heat dissipation via its 100% copper fins, base and six heat pipes. Using an all-copper CPU cooling solution, the cooler’s light weight design also allows it to relieve stress on the motherboard. It can be installed in a jiffy without removing the motherboard or memory modules.

AllPeers logoFile sharing has been made easier with AllPeers. You can share webpages, photos, videos, music or any other files with friends and family. It does not matter what the file size is be it 100KB or 100GB. By creating your own sharing community, you can invite your friends and family to join in this system and supposed to be the best thing to happen to Firefox browsers. It works on Windows XP, Mac OSX and Linux OS. There are no uploads, no email attachments, no spyware, no adware and it is private and secure. That’s why uses are saying “AllPeers Rocks!” and you can download the public beta version.

The interesting news is that you can share any file without restrictions. And just like your friends have to be online to chat, you also have to be online so they can download the files you are sharing with them. AllPeers is free to use and they are using P2P technology which means it costs very little to run. On the downside, you don’t have to use AllPeers to have people accessing your PC. That’s why you should always use the latest security software like anti-virus, firewall and spyware remover. AllPeers does not create any additional risk and lets you decide which files to share with who and there’s no way for them to see your private files.

As reported in ABC News in the press page on 29th August 2006, AllPeers intergrates completely with Firefox. Simply by keying in e-mail addresses or AllPeers user names, you add friends and family to a contacts list, and once you’ve chosen a name from the list, you can start sending files via drag-and-drop. And early this year in March 2006, Mangrove Capital Partners and Index Ventures have once again joined forces to invest in AllPeers, a software vendor whose Firefox extension for private media sharing has recently sparked the imagination of the blogosphere as a potential “killer app” for the popular Firefox web browser. To download AllPeers, you need to have FireFox browser installed.

As all communications are encrypted using industry standard SSL, you can only share with people you know. Eventually, you can also make money by allowing people to sell or buy their content under their own terms. But this is not for the present. AllPeers is being built one step at a time. In conclusion, AllPeers is a nifty file sharing system that integrates well with Firefox browers regardless of the file size being sent.

Asus-Lamborghini-VX2
Most of us will probably never be able to afford an exotic Italian sports car - but we can at least buy licensed merchandise, it is the closest most os us will ever get. Clad in either a glossy yellow magnesium alloy or a black carbon fibre skin, the VX2 looks like it came off Lamborghini’s production line in Bologna.

The Asus Lamborghini VX2 is a nice alternative to spending upwards of RM1 million and does look rather like the actual car themselves. Except that it hasn’t got wheels. The VX2 even has leather-bound palm rests with yellow stitching that mimics the interior of the actual car. Unfortunately, we have no idea how much the Asus Lamborghini VX2 costs nor what sort of specs it’ll have - Asus hasn’t confirmed them yet.

What we do know is that it’ll come with Windows Vista and it’ll use the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors and will have all the benefits of the Centrino Duo platform. (i.e. built-in WiFi and efficient power management).

Hafnium, a metal used in manufacture of nuclear reactors, could soon replace silicon in the technology lexicon following claims that it will revolutionise computer-chip technology.

Competing breakthroughs announced over the weekend by Intel and IBM, two of the biggest names in the industry, should enable the speed and power of computer chips to keep accelerating for at least the next decade.

The development, described by Intel as “the biggest change to computer chips in 40 years”, will not only push personal computers and laptop speeds to unprecedented levels but it should also allow people to do more on their mobile phones.

Intel, the world’s biggest chip maker, said that the density of transistors on a chip could be doubled, making computers faster and reducing the cost of powering transistors by almost of third.

Hours after Intel’s announcement, IBM rushed out a statement claiming that it, too, was working on new technology based on hafnium. It said that it was collaborating with Advanced Micro Devices, Intel’s main chip-making rival, and would start using it in computers next year.

mouse with diamonds
Here is a device that will definitely send shivers down your spine when you look at it - a diamond-studded optical mouse that retails for a whopping US$24,180 (RM89,630)! Other than buying this as an investment, you can either use it as an ordinary optical mouse although I doubt any owner would be insane enough to do that.

As an optical device, it features 800 dots per inch resolution and three buttons. In terms of opulence, this amazing mouse is cast from 18-carat white gold and boasts 59 brilliant cut diamonds, where you can choose the Diamond Flower design or the Scattered Diamond one.

I’m not sure if anyone is willing to put down some serious ringgit for such a gift, but if there wasn’t any demand, there wouldn’t be any supply, right?

Gmail helped bridge the gap between desktop and web applications by using an approach usually called Ajaxing, where AJAX is short for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML. This involves downloading JavaScript code so that users are, in effect, running a small, responsive local application.

The AJAX engine communicates with the back-end server only when required; it doesn’t have to go back for a refresh every time something is clicked. Ajaxing wasn’t the first attempt to bridge the gap between desktop and web-based applications.

At the moment, Adobe Flash is the leading challenger. Although Flash is closely identified with showing YouTube videos and annoyingly obstrusive online advertisements, it now has its own powerful scripting language, ActionScript, and its own RIA development system, Flex.

There’s also an open alternative to proprietary Flash – OpenLaszlo, which has been used by Yahoo! and, for example, the Pandora online music service.
