Withdraw Money from Paypal to Public Bank Visa Electron Debit Card

I just came back from Public Bank in Bishop Street, Penang, the main branch. I am happy to say that I finally managed to add my Public Bank Visa Electron Debit card to my Paypal account in USA. This is possible after topping up my card to RM55 from RM25. I contacted the person in charge in KL and she informed me that in order to be able to add your Visa debit card account to Paypal for withdrawing US funds, you need to have at least RM30 in the debit card. When I applied for the debit card, I was told to put in RM25 which was the minimum but insufficient for Paypal transactions.

And true enough, I came back and logged in to my Paypal to add the Visa debit card (Note that Paypal only accepts Visa credit or debit card and not Mastercard) and it was successful. Such is the magic of online transactions via Paypal to receive US dollars. The US funds accumulated because of my work done mainly in writing articles for overseas clients and very little from paid blogging. I have about USD600 in Paypal since December 2008 and the money was stuck for 2 months as I had to wait for my Public Bank Visa Electron Debit Card approval which took about 3 weeks. I am relieved that by today, after a visit to the bank, everything was settled.

Hi Diana. I recently got a Public Bank Visa Electron as well and I couldn’t link it to my Paypal account. After I corrected my mistake (I had entered some information wrongly), Paypal refused to accept it even after I told them it was due to my carelessness.

According to them, my card was unverifiable! I was even told to use another card, which I do no have. The bank said there is no problem with my card and just yesterday I did what you did: topping up my card (now RM50). To no avail. :(

Ming: it is very critical to enter everything correctly in Paypal the first time. That is why I always check, recheck and check again before pressing the Submit button for all my online transactions including internet banking.

Since Paypal is unable to verify it, and after you have emailed them, the solution is to apply for another Public Bank Visa Debit card though it is trouble some and costs more money. But do this when you have exhausted all avenues to add the present card to your Paypal.

What are you doing to get money from Paypal?

    Hi Diana,

It’s great you managed to withdraw the paypal fund :) Just a couple of questions though,

    1) Is it the Visa card you used is linked to your PB saving account? What I want to know is, is it the paypal fund is credited into your PB saving account or just the card?

    2) Fee of transaction & Maximum withdrawal limit? (yeah I know you are not a paypal’s representative, just to see may be if you know? :) )

I always have my merchant transfer the money to my PB account twice per month, which cost me USD50+ per transaction… I didn’t use paypal for receiving money because I don’t want to take an extra step to bank in the money after I withdraw it from ATM through my Visa Credit card… Especially when the security in our country is…

Btw, which part of Penang you from? :)

  5. Diana says:

cktan: Visa debit card has its own account and can also be linked to PB savings account. Paypal fund is credited to the card.

Maximum withdrawal limit is USD500 with USD5 transaction fee. Receiving money overseas using your credit card is not advisable as the fees are way too high.

I am staying in Island Park. Are you also from Penang?

  6. cktan says:

$5 transaction fee is still cheaper than my current transaction fee for wire transfer ($50+), but $500 limit seems too low… Anyway, thanks for the information.

Yeah I from Penang too but not in island, Seberang Perai actually :) It’s glad to know there is another Internet marketer from Penang, nice to meet you!

    Hi diana,
This is my first visit at your blog, i stumble upon your blog when i searching for how to withdraw money from paypal to public bank visa electron debit card. Like to know, does the transaction fees is fixed? or its based on the amount we transfer? because i have usd1500 and reading at your post it says limit usd500 per transaction meaning if i want to withdraw all i need to make 3 times transaction isn’t it?
Usually i just spend the usd money at my paypal shopping online but now i would like to try to transfer it to PB visa elec debit card and see how it goes.
    thanks :)

Now you don’t need to use Public Bank debit card to withdraw. Just enter your bank SWIFT code to Paypal and you are ready to withdraw directly to your local bank in Malaysia.

  12. icute says:

Owh thanks diana for the info, by puting those code do i still need the ample balance in the account for the transaction?
